I am kicking around the idea of doing a one shot comic featuring an all new superhero team purely for the fun of it. Any ideas on what kind of powers and personalities would make a good team?
I agree with you on that last comment. The avengers are very easily thought of as the best superhero team, and how could you dislike the x-men, especially with wolverine.
But i think you should maybe think more along the lines of justice league, as they are the best of dc. Most people do the same when making new teams. They always go for their preference(marvel, dc). I know there are more but they are the biggest and best.
If you look at the justice league, they accidentilly meet up one by one, to stop an alien mess up. And even though they start out disliking one another, they end up becoming something like friends. Even though they still do not completely like each other, they are a great group full of people with completely different powers. Ths gives them the advantage of having a very different speciality for each member. Another good thing you can take from this is that they are still their own heroes, and have their own sort of jurisdiction. Batman has gotham, superman has metropolis, aquaman has the sea, green lantern has his sector of space, etc.
What i find pretty awesome about the justice league is that they have the king of atlantis, a space cop, a cyborg, the fastest man alive an amazonian, and such a wide variety of heroes. With the avengers you have a super soldier, a hulk, a man in a kick ass suit, a god. I mean that is still really cool but there isnt as much of a variety as the justice league.
Yes, a team of sexy life guards, who in between saving lives, deals with their angst and...no wait. That's been done. How about a trio of sexy former cops who work for a mysterious, unseen boss who...no, no. Been done. Nope got nothing....
Got to love superhero teams. I have a couple of teams my self. Alot of powers have been used in the comic world, so i find it best that you if you have a power that has been used alot, try to change the way the power works or the way it looks. Personality wise, i would have some wide varieties. A team would be boring if every one had the same personality, so make one person quite and shy, when the other one is a rule breaking, action loving, bada##! Making a superhero team is glorious and fun! I hope this helps.
Always thought that the Classic Monsters would make a great super hero team. Frankenstein would be like the Hulk. Werewolf would be also like Wolverine. Creature from the Black Lagoon the equal to Aquaman. Dracula the leader of the team like Magneto or Luthor. Not to mention the others "Mummy, Invisible Man, Jeckel and Hide." The options are endless....lol Just a thought.
That's not a bad idea at all. I think the fact that they come with some back-story already would be helpful...though I know people would want to see their favorite monster drawn the way they picture him/her in their head and I would have a hard time staying true to the classic versions of the characters.
My main fear is that something similar was done with Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentleman already and was not well received.
I would agree and dis-agree. Were talking a revamp. of the Iconic figures Dracula, Mummy, Frankenstein ect. It would be like comparing Frankenstein from Belagosi with the one in Vanhelsing. Both are the same person just a different vision. The League of Extraordinary Gentleman went with the premise of that time those caricatures existed at the same time. There's a lot of wonderful ways you could envision them that would make them your own. Just a thought.
Teams are awesome. It's great to see the interaction and teamwork between superheroes, especially if they are taking on villainous teams. I guess the main negative I can think of is that an individual may lean more towards one hero than another. For instance, some like Batman more than Robin, or vice versa. Still, that's more of a personal thing and not everyone agrees.
I guess my goal would be a team similar in structure to the Avengers who have a core of strong personalities (Cap, Iron Man, Thor) complimented by some lighter characters like Wasp, Ant Man and Hawkeye.
I like the group interaction aspect too. I really enjoyed the classic X-men books for that reason.
I hope I could balance out the pros and cons of the characters so everyone could have their own favorite and no one single member would steal the show.
