I have been looking around a bit on DA and have found MASSIVE amounts of art theft- I have turned in about 10 deviants in the last 6 months for art theft. These aren't people I tracked down either- just people who came through my page.

I am actually shocked at how brazen some of these thieves are. Maybe they don't know the rules but I think this kind of thing is common sense.

What do you folks think??? Lemme know.

EDIT: I gave an example of a major rip-off artist here on DA but was told that I can not do that. I had to remove it.

So I have a question! As a digital artist, nothing is original anymore unless I take my photos I took and put them on here. And frankly sometimes; I wanna sometimes draw more then what I can capture with the camera, so is that also concered "Theft"? Because, the way I see it, yes sometimes it is original art work from someone else but it's different. IT"S not Identicle work! I mean of course if you put every little line and every little shade on there it would be "Theft" but if you take it and make it your own, to me that is not. Infact I'm working on some art work of skulls that are from skulls I found online, I don't know who drew them, but I"m going to put my style into it.

Tell me if that is "Theft" because everything else, I've seen, Is "theft" if you wanna get tehnical but I don't care. Every work is great and it's all one in a kind.

But try to crack down on them, I wish you luck. There are way more then you think, including some around you.

But I do agree with the person who said "give credit" I think I'll tell my friends to give credit to the original artists (If they know who they are)

Good luck and check out my webpage, I'm sure you'll see that nothing is truely "original"

Um... as long as someone gives credit to the source of their art and don't pretend its 100% original their cool with me.

If I redraw a superman cover I like (which I wouldn't- I do original work) I would say "original art by "x" redone by me.

Pretty simple.

That does make sense, however; what if you don't know quite who did it? Is a signature on it concidered writing it off as original work by you?
I'm just trying to figure it out, because I've done that before. The dolphin is a photo from someone I don't know who did it, and I didn't say them.
So if you want you can get me for that, but I honestly don't care. My art is my own, and the minute I change the color or anything on it it's orignal by me. Because to me, if it's not the same color or the same as the "original" it's not the original.

but that's just me :)

Ty for looking at my profile. Hope you enjoyed it

I commission a lot of people since I can't draw. I always post it WITH the artist that made it for me. It's not a difficult thing to do. Art theft is stupid. I had to go back and watermark all I could. Especially since quite a few things are for business and are copywrite.

Art theft makes me sick. I also feel that way about software piracy and music pirating. It just shows a general lack of appreciation for artists and what they do. Even worse, it works to damage the very efforts that the person doing the stealing obviously enjoys.

here's an image match/search prog called "tineye" available as a plugin or on site you can plug an image into for a wee
b-wide search to see if it's stolen , or to locate other sites it's on. it's free too.

yes, watermarking really ruins art.. but knowing this.. it's kinda better to ruin art.. =( which is like hanging on a cliff..

most people that steal art are most likely jealous of the artists so they result to theft, i'll admit i have a couple of art works that arent mine in the devations but i went thru the proper channels and actually asked the person if it was alright. i took hellknight10s two draonball z pictures one of goku and the other of vegeta and put them togther like u see on tv where they half there face.
